Dear Ivan,

there are simple formulae for the curvature and torsion of a curve --
look up the Frenet-Serret formulae in any introductory book on 
differential geometry.  doCarmo's book on "Cuurves and Surfaces" is 
good, but there are plenty more.  To calculate curvature you need
only second derivatives, and you don't need to rotate the curve.
