June. Simulating Nature - Richard J. Gaylord and Kazume Nishidate - The first
in recurring column of articles. In this issue, "Aggregation, Deposition and
Spreading": The coalescence of particles, resulting in the formation of large
structures, is a topic of great interest in many of the physical, chemical and
biological sciences. It also has engineering applications. Two mechanisms of
coherence that result in the formation of clusters of particles are considered:
accretion from without and growth from within. Programs are developed that can
be used to simulate the processes of diffusion-limited aggregation, ballistic
deposition and kinetic growth. Other Notebooks - Isotopic Tilings, Iteration
Methods in Numerical Analysis, Self-Replicating Code, Dickinson College Calculus
Project, Kreyzsig Lab, Mathematica University*, OzMATH Corner. Tutorials -
Function Browser, Open Special Strings/Names and Messages, Variables in Pure
Functions & Rules, DiscreteMath`RSolve`, Graphics`PlotField`,
NumericalMath`InterpolateRoot`. Referred Article - Differential Operator. News
- Tip of the Month, Programming Competition, and solutions to news and mail
group problems.
