MMA: EndOfFile-Character (1A) disturbes ReadList

Hello,

If you try to read in a binary file by

ReadList["list.xy",Byte]

the Command will stop after after reading a EndOfFile-Character 
(On Mma for Windows: 0x1A). If the Character is in the file Mma is 
not able to read in the rest.

Does anybody know, how to tell Mma to read in the whole file?
