symbol construct?

   My earlier question regarding Context can be disregarded.  It appears 
nested contexts do appear.
   
   My present question:
   In the Miscellaneous`Units package there is a statement to the effect of
   Meter::symbol="m"
   
   What does this mean and what is it used for?
