Hi,
I'm a Ph.D student in Economics at the New School for
Social Research in NY City. I recently bought a student
version of Mathematica (for windows)to simulate some
"replicator equations" which are at the heart of my dissertation,
entitled "A stochastic model of technical change".

I have a 486 dx 4-75 notebook computer with 520 mb harddrive
and 8mb Ram. I allocated 30mb of virtual memory. I thought
this would be enough!! But it appears not to be. Every time
that I try to solve a system of about 30 differential equations
Mathematica responds with the following message:

"Application Error, Math caused a general protection fault
in module mcomm.dll"

It does not give me this message when I solve the same system
at a smaller dimension.

I was wondering if you think that the problem is that I do
not have enough memory, or simply that something went wrong
with my version of Mathematica? Have you ever heard of that
message appearing in other situations? What is mcomm.dll?

Thank you for your time.

Mariana Mazzucato
