Numbered Countour Lines

I would like to use ContourPlot do make a contour 
diagram of a function of the form z=f(x,y). I would like to have the
contour numbers printed on each contour line. (I have seen this
done in the Harvard Multivariable Calculus Book.)
Can anyone tell me how to do this?
