Converting to PICT within an MMA program

My platform: a PowerMac 7500/100.

My Question: Is thre a way to convert the frames of an animation away from
PostScript (to PICT, probably) while MMA is producing the frames, to save
on storage space? This may be a case of executing a MenuBar command from
with MMA, or perhaps a Display redirection.

THANKS!
