Mathematica is not very user friendly.  However, "The Joy of Mathematica"
by Alan Schuchat and Fred Schultz adds the program Joy of Mathematica
which you can use to interface with Mathematica.  It has pull down menus
and windows where one fills in information.  It gives explanations of what
command is being done in plain english not Mathematica commands. 
  However, it only works with MacIntosh.  I don't know if they have a
windows version.
