   Look at the manual under function definitions.  Instead write 

x[t_] := (Sin[t])^3
y[t_] := (Cos[t])^3
graphics = ParametricPlot[{x[t], y[t]}, {t, 0, Pi/2}]

Anytime MMA sees the pair "{ ... }", it expects a list.
Also, look up delayed assignments.  that is what the 
assignment operator" := " is doing in the stmt 
"stuff[t_] := other stuff"
