Wolfram Research is now shipping the Mathematica Link for Microsoft
Word, which turns Word into an environment for doing mathematical
calculations and creating technical reports. Using Microsoft Word
as a front end to the Mathematica kernel, this link allows users to
combine text, live calculations, and graphics using the text
processing and layout features of Word.

Users enter calculations in their Word documents, then the
Mathematica kernel evaluates them and the results appear in that
same Word document.

Users can also take advantage of Word¹s macro language, WordBasic,
to create new interface elements such as custom dialog boxes,
toolbars of common functions, and on-screen forms with buttons and
pop-up menus.

Other capabilities of Mathematica Link for Microsoft Word include
the ability to edit existing calculations; import existing
Mathematica notebooks into Word; flow text around Mathematica
calculations and graphics in more than one column; add text, arrows,
and call-out boxes; use Word¹s spell and grammar checks; create
indexes; and hide or delete all Mathematica inputs, outputs, or
prompts to create a publication-ready manuscript.

Mathematica Link for Microsoft Word requires Microsoft Word Version
6 or later on either Macintosh, Power Macintosh, Windows 3.1,
Windows 95, or Windows NT.

About MathLink
MathLink is a communication protocol that provides transparent
connections between Mathematica, a users¹ own programs, and any
MathLink-capable application. Mathematica¹s notebook front end
communicates with the Mathematica kernel via MathLink.
