This is described in detail on pages 103-106 of the Mathematica User's Guide for Microsoft Windows. However, your remote kernel will only be able to access data files with ReadList if they are on a drive volume mounted on the Unix machine. This is unlikely to be the case for your data on your PC. You would therefore probably want to transfer your data files to the Unix machine first.
