Eric:

You can cut and paste a picture into a Mathematica cell. Select that cell
and choose "Convert to InputForm" from the cell menu. The raster of values
making up the picture is a part of the InputForm. This is explained in
various articles and books. I believe you'll find details in The Book,
too.
