Transpose

Transpose[list] transposes the first two levels in list. Transpose[list, {n1,
   n2, ...}] transposes list so that the nk-th level in list is the k-th level
   in the result.

Now suppos matrix is a square matrix. Why gives Transpose[matrix,{1,1}] the 
diagonal?
