We are in a quite similar situation, also planning to buy DEC-alphas,
and Linux would be our (well, at least my) favourite OS. So I asked
the same question to support at wolfram.com; this was the reply I got:

    Dear Sir

Thank you for your recent Email regarding Mathematica.

Unfortunately, Mathematica is not available for Linux on a DecAlpha
machine. If you would like to see Mathematica for this platform, why not
tell our developers by writing to suggestions at wolfram.com

For the most up-to-date information about the platforms Mathematica
    supports, please see:
    http://www.wolfram.com/mathematica/platforms.html

Thank you for your interest in Mathematica, please feel free to contact me
if I can be of further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

I did write a short note to suggestions at wolfram.com, too, but never got a reply
from them. Maybe they become active when they receive more messages asking for
Mma on DEC-alpha under Linux.

Not very likely, IMHO. Even if you find a way to execute native DEC programs
under Linux, Mma may still fail to run due to its elaborate copy protection scheme.
