I was possibly able to reproduce your symptom once, but not repeatably, at least not in my current session. (It's not convenient to restart the kernel just now and try to repeat the experiment from scratch.) What I SEEMED to see was that, once I tried the alternate form Contours->n, the symptom disappeared.
