The Add-On, Utilities`Notation` deals with this sort of problem.

<<Utilities`Notation`

(using ^B for overhat[B])

Symbolize[^B]

f[Pattern[^B, _]] := ^B.^B
(* the abbreviation ^B_ does not parse properly for me*)

f[{1,2,3}]
	
	14
