This almost gets it right:

sphereAlmost=
{Point[{Number,Number,Number}],PointSize[Number]}]

except that the pointsize should be set before the point is plotted, so

sphere=3DsphereAlmost/.{p_,r_}->{r,p}

Then

Show[Graphics3D[sphere]]

works fine. Hope this helps.

PS: I used to work in the area of Polymer Flow Simulation and was
