This is probably enough for fun, however you will need some calculations to produce a projection onto a globe. (Sorry, I have no access to these calculations right now.) I once reduced the polygons of countries to polygons of continents, as the number of countries turned out to be too great for a real-time animation with the LiveGraphics3D applet.
