yourFavoriteVariableName = x/.FindRoot[Exp[x] == x^2,{x,-0.5}]

you can even say x = x/.FindRoot[Exp[x] == x^2,{x,-0.5}]

However, if you do that you will need to reset x before you use it again
in your FindRoot.

Cheers,

Kevin
