Mathematica crash on HP

On HP/UX 10.20B with mathematica 4.0 I get the following error: %158 /home/sunlocal/mathematica/Executables/HP-RISC: mathematica X Error of failed request: BadFont (invalid Font parameter) Major opcode of failed request: 56 (X_ChangeGC) Resource id in failed request: 0xffffffff Serial number of failed request: 40801 Current serial number in output stream: 40806 The error occurs whenever I hit a font related sub-menu or a cell related sub-menu and maybe others. Mathematica dies when I do this. Does anybody know what causes this or how to fix it?
