Martin:

Depending on your platform. Mac can save Animation as QuickTime. However I
am not certain that PowerPoint will import and play .MOV in its native mode.

You can export the animation into numbered graphics files. The use
PowerPoint limited ability to put couple of frames together and create an
animation.

Or you can change those numbered files into an AVI file. (I know that Adobe
Premiere can do this but that is an expansive solution. There must be share
ware software, or maybe you can do it yourself, that can take graphics files
[tiff, eps, gif, ...] and turn them into an .AVI)  And then import that AVI
file into PowerPoint.
