how can i rename the internal name of symbols?

to be more specific:
i use the UnitStep[.] and the DiracDelta[.] a lot and i'd like to
replace it with an other, shorter symbol, e.g. "u".
of course i can set an alias name, but when i (e.g.) use the
InverseLaplaceTransform[.], the UnitStep[.] is used again.
