HPUX and modifier keys

I'm trying to use Mathematica's modifier keys, for example, to change a cell's
formatting to text. This should be accomplished by selecting the cell and doing
a mod1+7, but that doesn't work with either the alt or the ctrl buttons.

Anyone know how to set this up? Thanks.
