Greetings- The newsgroup and mailing list will be down Wednesday, Thursday, and part of Friday this week. It will be active again late Friday night. Any mail received after about 9pm tonight will not go out until Friday night. I will be out of town. Also, I am instituting a new policy. Due to potential problems with email attachments and similar issues, I will no longer accept any postings that contain attachments of any kind. I will simply email them back to the person sending them with instructions to present the attachments in some other form, either in the text of the email or on some web/ftp site. If you have a notebook you want someone to see, then put it somewhere where it can be downloaded and send the location address, or if the notebook is short, put it in the text of the message. Also, I would like to point out two other problems. If you are sending out messages containing 8-bit characters, don't. Not all email and newsreaders see these characters properly and your message may be scrambled. Further, many of you like to abbreviate Mathematica with Mma, or MMa or mma or similar shortcut. Please stop this. Search engines like for the google groups might not find your message if you write Mma instead of Mathematica. I spend a lot of time trying to edit these abbreviations out and would rather not have to do that. I have tried to write scripts that will do this automatically, but there is always something that gets messed up. Right now I am asking for voluntary compliance with this request, but in the future I may just send the messages back to be edited. Thanks for your cooperation. Steve Christensen Moderator
