Matt,
You need the FrontEnd Token, "EvaluateNotebook":

nbe =
Notebook[{Cell["2+3", "Input"] },
    WindowTitle -> "temp"
];

nbo = NotebookPut[nbe];

FrontEndExecute[{FrontEndToken[nbo,"EvaluateNotebook"]}]
