Tim, for approximate answers we can use NIntegrate

NIntegrate[Sqrt[Tan[x]],{x,0,1}]

0.727298

We can increase the accuracy, for example

NIntegrate[Sqrt[Tan[x]],{x,0,1}, WorkingPrecision->35]

0.7272982493435106435530637

Accuracy[%]

25
