Accessing Help Causes the Front End to Quit?

I type "LogListPlot" into a cell, hit the Help key to get information 
about the syntax.  A reference to the Mathematic Book, Section ?.?.? 
comes up.  I click on the highlighted section reference, the page 
describing LogListPlot opens momentarily, then the Mathematica front end 
suddenly quits with "Error 11".

Rebuilt the Help index, restarted the Mac -- same thing happens.
