I'll just throw in a side note that making a change of variables is one of those
standard analytical tools (along with "harmonic matching", or series expansions)
that lots of people learn and use to simplify analytical expressions or attach
physical meaning to expressions.
So, it would be very nice if one of the future additions to Mathematica could be some
kind of command or expression that would do a neat and effective job of change
of variables, without the innocent user having to get into all the hairy details
of pattern matching and the innards of how Mathematica processes things.
