Hi,

In[]:=Expand[Sin[x]^2*Cos[2x], Trig -> #] & /@ {True, False}

Out[]={Cos[x]^2*Sin[x]^2 - Sin[x]^4, Cos[2*x]*Sin[x]^2}

??
