A side effect of SafeFileOpen->IgnoreCache is that every time I save a file, I get a message saying the file has changed outside of Mathematica, and do I want to overwrite? This is the message Mark Coleman was talking about, but I don't think he got it because of this option. I got it a couple of times last Tuesday, before I found out about the option. Some files are smaller than before --- perhaps because of other version differences, as I'm testing by opening old files and saving them. Some hardly change. The largest example file I've tried grew from 17,907 KB to 20,966 KB. The file was mostly animation graphics. It is worthwhile to report bugs, or suspected bugs on MathGroup. It keeps them on their toes, even if a few of them don't like it. Did anyone else mention using 4.2 mention getting corrupted notebooks? Do you have enough information to say that turning ShortBoxForm off helps. How much bigger do your files get? I hope you won't be too hard on WRI because, by and large, I think they have a wonderful product. It is probably because we like it so much that we become upset when there appear to bugs at a fundamental usability level with new versions. It is like having something nice taken away. Generally, I think they do try to fix and improve things - perhaps not always as fast as we would like. Anyway they do certainly take notice of MathGroup criticisms.
