Problems with MathReader 5.0 on MacOS X

I just installed (first time) MathReader on my iMac (MacOS 10.2.6). I have downloaded a view demo notebook documents from Wolfram, but I have problems displaying them. Instead of Matrixes I see a few wild characters and sometimes I see only a fat black line instead of a formula. Is there something wrong with my installation? Do I have to install additional fonts (and where do I get them)? If I buy Mathematica 5 for MacOS X do I have to expect the same problems? Thank You! Roman
