DOS names in Mathematica 5 notebooks?

Hi everybody,
I´m running Mathematica 5 under XP and noticed a strange behaviour.
When I open a notebook with a name longer than 8 characters the name
is abbreviated in the old DOS style (in the title line of the notebook
window). The notebook KowaldNotebook.nb is displayed as Kowald~2.nb.
This is not a serious problem, but it is annoying. Probably the is an
option deep down in the options inspector to change this behaviour,
but I can´t find it :-(
Does anybody know a solution ?
