Robert,

If you just want to use subscripted variables there is a package by Ted
Ersek, SymbolizeSubscripts, on MathGroup. It uses the Notations package and
takes care of the interface for you.

difficult to use. It is not well documented and does not provide a knowledge
path that will lead one to become reasonably competent in creating
notations. I don't think the notations are quite as general as one might
expect and do not smoothly mesh with the rest of Mathematica. You can find
yourself spending much more time on the notations than on your actual
technical problem. I have never been successful with it.

I often complain about it because I think it would be a nice facility to
have. But it is beyond my reach.

Does someone know if Mathematica 5 uses the same version of the Notation
package as that posted at Wolfram.com. The web page below lists several files
that are not continaned in the ZIP file.

The reason I looked at this site was to try and understand how to use
Symbolize in the Notation package. This seems to be one of the most
frustrating aspects of Mathematica, especially for engineers who routinely use
subscripts, accents etc in their traditional notations. It seems like
one mistake, like not using the palette because you copy and past can
get you into unfathomable trouble - especially when using Modules. On
that point - am I correct in thinking that you cant mix normal and
Symbolized arguments to functions you are defining or have I made
another unfathomable mistake?

Finally, if the folks at Wolfram are watching is there a reason by we
can have an option to Symbolize all variables in a Notebook - I would
doubt there are many engineers out there using subscripts as variables.
