I presume you mean italics for text cells. In that case, yes, simply select
whatever you wish to appear in italics and press ctrl-i. Otherwise, if you
want to use italics for expressions in an ordinary input cell, don't. Better
use traditional form, and you'll get very nice looking expressions.
