Thanx a lot to both of you.I desperately needed this patch. and they both
do their job well. (no crashed mathematica)
the first fix (fixgraphics.pl etc. ) is a bit more complicated to install.
the second fix,the one with a $NewDisplayFunction, is easier to install,
and the [times] symbol looks better.
but if you evaluate a notebook with many plots, the plots get lost or
appear at the wrong places.
so i take the first one.
