Matt,

If you care to try out the DrawGraphics package at my web site below, I have
a Legend example in the Help that shows how to use legends with curves
produced by various types of plots.

However I think that legends are often a poor graphical device. They usually
end up being too large and too dominant and therefore detract from the main
graphics message you are trying to convey. Often it might be simpler and
clearer to directly label curves with Text statements. With DrawGraphics you
could also construct your own psuedo-legends simply by adding lines and Text
statements directly to the plot. That is usually much easier to control and
gets rid of the box and shadow and all the other 'computer junk'. The
Mathematica Legend construction is very tricky to control.

How does one combine the legend from a MulipleListPlot and Plot?...or
better yet...How does one place the symbols from the
SymbolShape,MakeSymbol command that MultpleListPlot uses into a Graphics
thingy that ShowLegend can deal with?
