Dear All,

I was preparing a lecture using Mathematica and encountered this problem. In
a separate text cell, I wrote an equation and wanted to name this equation
(1.1).

I recalled somewhere in the Mathematica Book it is talked about how to do
this. So I went to the help browser and looked up the Book. In section
1.10.14, it showed two ways to do automatic numbering. But unfortunately,
none worked. What I did is first write the cells in text style, then choose
the cell and then create an automatic numbering object from the Input Menu.
Is there any guru who can tell me what I did wrong? Many thanks!

Dr. H. Fang
