Mike, Yes it is reasonable to expect them to produce a product that works on the systems that they advertise it for. Perhaps for some the garbled y-axis is a "cosmetic" problem. For me it is essential, since I use Mathematica in both class lectures and seminars, and it is seriously unprofessional to have the junked up y-axis labels and any other non-horizontal text lables. As I have said before, mat lab has figured out how to make their labels work correctly under linux, unix, mac, ...; so, it is possible.
