Modify the automatic Ticks

Show[plt = Plot[x, {x, 0, 1.9},
        DisplayFunction -> Identity],
    DisplayFunction -> $DisplayFunction,
    Ticks -> {Automatic,
        ((Ticks /. AbsoluteOptions[plt, Ticks]) /.
              {y_?NumberQ, yl_?NumberQ, r__} :>
                {y, PaddedForm[yl, {3, 2}], r})[[2]]}];
