Factor[(5-3I)+(-4+I)x+(1-I)x^2]

((1 + I) - I*x)*((1 + I)*x + (1 - 4*I))

Sqrt[-1]

I

However, after loading the standard add-on package
Miscellaneous`RealOnly`

Needs["Miscellaneous`RealOnly`"];

Factor[(5-3I)+(-4+I)x+(1-I)x^2]

Nonreal::warning: Nonreal number encountered.

Nonreal

Sqrt[-1]

Nonreal::warning: Nonreal number encountered.

Nonreal

Quit the kernel and start over.
