Thanks Chris, I was thinking along these lines: Each notebook template would require a unique passphrase to open it. The passphrase request would be recorded and time-stamped. The notebook template would be created through a cgi script which would use Encode[]. This wouldn't prevent students from sending their solutions to others, however. Still looking for advice.... W.
