Using v5.2 on Windows XP, I get:

Integrate[Max[x, y], {x, 0, 1}, {y, 0, 1}]

2/3

NIntegrate[Max[x, y], {x, 0, 1}, {y, 0, 1}]

0.666667

i.e. the same answer! Nothing wrong there!
