Hi, I I figured this correctly you are mainly concerned with changing the default cell style which is INPUT to Text. If most of your work is with text cells, then you can just change the default notebook option so the default style for new cells will be Text (or any style you want). After you set this, it costs you 0 keystrokes/mouse clicks to set the style. this is automatic. If I'm wrong with this assumption, I cannot figure out why you have to type some characters to set the style. First there is the ALT-Enter keystroke, that generates a new cell with the same style in which you clicked the ALT-Enter. This works for any style Second, even if you are moving between styles, and ALT-Enter will not work for you, then when the mouse pointer is a horizontal line (i.e., before a new cell is actually generated), press ALT-7 (or any other combination) and start typing. The cell will be generated with the desired style. I alreay typesetted with Mathematica Hundreds of pages, using the methods above. I found Mathematica to be the fastest tool for such quick switching between pre-defined styles. I hope this will help you regards yehuda I hope this On 1/30/06, albert <awnl at arcor.de> wrote: > > ntgladd at gladd.com wrote: > > > RSI has me looking for ways to reduce keystrokes and mouse gestures. > > > > I type a jillion cells a year and when I enter a new cell and want to > > change it's style I have two basic choices > > > > 1) type a few characters > > 2) select the cell with mouse left > > 3) mouse right and choose cell type from Style > > (alternatively, I can select Format -> Style from the top menu) > > (alternatively I can type Alt-7 [for text] after the cell in > selected) > > > > I can also change the style of a cell completely with the keyboard > > 1) type a few characters > > 2) select the cell with ExpandSelection (but this takes a few presses > of > > Ctrl > and it's easy to over expand) 3) Change the style with Alt-7 > > 3) Move the selection point back inside the cell with left arrow. > > > > It seems to me that this should to be easy to do with just two > keystrokes, > > For example Ctrl S (to select the encompassing cell) Alt7 to change it > to > > text, or even better, just Ctrl S7 > > > > The completion command Ctrl K seems to contain most of the steps > required > > to do this.
