Here is a newbie approach:

In[1]:=
lst = {{x1, y1}, {x2, y2},
    {x3, y3, z3}, {x4, y4}}

In[4]:=
({#1[[1]], #1[[2]]} & ) /@ lst
Out[4]=
{{x1, y1}, {x2, y2},
   {x3, y3}, {x4, y4}}
