Hello,

I have been using Mathematica successfully on
Linux machines for many years now, but since
version 5.2 I have a problem with the notebook
interface that I cannot resolve and for which
I have not found any solution on the www.

This problem occurs on several machines which
all run a *local* 5.2 Mathematica (*not* over the
net) and have SuSE linux installed with version
ranging from 9.2 to 10.0 and moreover which
are using different windows managers.

The problem is as follows:
While editing a notebook I usually place the
cursor in two ways, via mouse and also via the
keyboard i.e. via the cursor-keys.
Now, whenever the notebook reaches a visible
size of say, only more than 2 or 3 lines of
characters the movement of the cursor via the
cursor keys gets very sluggish and even worse,
it 'lags behind' in the sense that when I get
my hands off the the cursor keys the cursor
still creeps along the direction it has been
sent into via the cursor key previously.

While this 'feels' like in an xterm environment
where the keyboard repeat rates have not been
set properly, let me point out that this is
not the case. On any of the machines where
this happens the keyboard repeat rates for
any other X-application are just fine.

Any help on this issue would be most appreciated.

Regards,
Wolfram
