put package.m (or whatever you call it) in a subfolder of Applications
in that subfolder, put another folder called Kernel
in Kernel, put a file called init.m
in init.m put
<<subfolder`package`

where package is from the name package.m (ie the name of your m file
without the .m)

in Mathematica, load your package with

<<subfolder`
