Hi,

why so complicated, in the Utilities`Benchmark` Package you have
almost everything to compare the speed it Mathematica and
yes on my iMac running Windows and OS X the OS X benchmark is
25 % slower.

| Dear NG,
|
| recently I switched from a Dell notebook to a
MacBook Pro. We licensed
| Mathematica 5.2.2.0, which is a Universal Binary
on Mac OSX. Yesterday,
| a colleague sent me a notebook with some
intensive computations and
| asked me to test the speed on my MacBook.
|
| The results were quite surprising and earned me
quite a few smirks from
| my fellow coworkers. Here's what I got:
|
| Dell Latitude 505 (1.6 Ghz, 512 MB RAM): 263.44
secs
|
| MacBook Pro 17" (2.1 Ghz, 2 GB RAM): 402,18
secs
|
|
| This means that my MacBook is about 35 % slower
than a technically
| inferior Windows notebook. Does anybody have
experiences with the
| performance of Mathematica on different OSes?
Has anybody notices
| similar behavior between the Windows and Mac OS
versions? Any hints or
| comments are very welcome.
|
| Kind regards, Malte
|
|
| p.s.: If you are interested in running the
Mathematica notebook on your
| Mac, I'm happy to send you a copy by e-mail.
