Chris pointed out that I didn't give enough hardware specs for my MacBook to answer the question. Here we go: Dell Latitude 505: 263.44 secs 1.6 Ghz Intel Pentium M (Centrino) 512 MB DDR RAM > 20 GB free space on 4200 rpm hdd MacBook Pro 17": 402,18 secs 2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo 2 GB DDR2 RAM > 20 GB free space on 5400 rpm hdd The computations do not involve any graphics output, so the video adapter should not be relevant. I checked hardware resource allocation on both systems by using some freeware system information software. Both systems run at highest cpu frequencies, Mathematica uses only one cpu core for computation on the MacBook Pro. Nonetheless, I expected at least 25 % faster performance on the MacBook, not 40 % slower. Can anybody give more information on this? Bye, Malte.
