Hi there,

I can't comment on other aspects, but I can say something about OS. I
did a benchmark test of Mathematica 6.0 on my MacBook running either WinXP or
MacOSX, and they ran basically with identical speeds. In other words, it
appears that Mathematica gives the same performance regardless of OS (at
least for OSX vs XP - I can't speak for Linux).
