Can Mathematica 5.2 (or 6.0) create or Export layered PDFs?

Secondarily, when I Export an image from Mathematica as PDF, regardless
of its size the image in the exported PDF file, when opened in Acrobat
or Illustrator, always seems to end up at the bottom of a standard
letter-size page in portrait orientation.

I'd like the image to be always centered on the page, and sometimes have
the page be in landscape orientation.

Changing the page orientation in the creating notebook's Print settings
doesn't seem to change this.

The documentation for Export options at some point mentions an
"Alignment" option (or sub-option) for Export, but Alignment doesn't
seem to be documented in the Help files.

[And can anyone say offhand if Acrobat 7 or Illustrator will let one
merge or combine several separate PDF files into one single layered PDF
file, one separate layer in the output PDF file for each different input
PDF file?]
